Amy Throughout the Years - a Wonderful Collection April 27, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I thoroughly enjoy this CD. There is a selection of both the Christian and secular sides of her work. The soundmix is wonderful and she is very, very talented. I can very much recommend this CD to anyone that likes her style of music.
Almost but not yet... February 23, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have always liked Amy Grant. I remember purchasing the 45rpm of "Find A Way" back in 1985. Since that time, I have always enjoyed her music and I was very excited to get her greatest hits album. I enjoyed all of the hits on this album including "Stay For Awhile,Baby Baby,Every Heartbeat,House Of Love",and more. I was just a little disappointed that they did not include her 1986 minor hit "Wise Up". I really like that song but it is not included on here. Also "I Will Be Your Friend" and "Big Yellow Taxi", are not included here as well. They also could of included her Christmas single "Tennessee Christmas". The record company needs to get this straight and release a complete greatest hits album. Other from those songs missing, this is a must have Amy Grant collection.
An excellent overview of Amy Grant's hit years! January 5, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
Die-hard Amy Grant fans may find fault with this album because it omits several of Amy Grants hits, such as "The Next Time I Fall", "Like I Love You" and "Big Yellow Taxi". But, hey, there's only so much room on a compact disc, so here are as many of Amy's biggest solo hits as could fit.
Amy Grant's major commercial successes came between 1979 and 1997, as this album showcases quite well. It begins with her recent minor hit "Simple Things" and traces back in time through her phenomenal success in the early '90s, then to her beginnings in "pop" music, and then on to her earlier, more inspirational fare, which was extremely popular at the time.
Amy's prior two best-of albums are split between the periods of 1979 to 1986, and then 1987 through 2004. So this newest greatest-hits collection is the only one that gives a broad overview of this singer/songwriter's commercially successful years.
The musical styles bob back and forth from pop to rock to contemporary Christian. Some fans may not want the Christian stuff, but it's solid, well-crafted, beautifully sung music. I am not a Christian, and Amy Grant's inspirational music has always been palatable with me.
With that said, this is a great CD filled with terrific songs. The darker moments are few and far between, but Amy Grant's music and voice are strong throughout. The perfect album for casual Amy Grant fans.
Average collection at best November 18, 2007 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
Amy Grant is a raw talent. Her career has spanned nearly 4 decades and during that time she has managed to find success in the Christian, Pop, Rock & AC formats with her catchy tunes and often personal songwriting ability.
In recent years she has retreated back to her gospel roots after her records began to stall on the charts but Amy is best when she sticks to what she does best---upbeat songs with a positive message.
Before parting ways with A&M, Amy released a Greatest Hits collection complete with all her hit recordings new and old so this new compilation really doesn't make sense unless it's EMI's attempt to generate a buzz around her work or worse, an attempt to cash in on her past successes.
Either way, there is nothing new here.
Let's hope Amy finds the excitement again that helped create past album gems like Heart In Motion & House Of Love with the lyrical balance of a personal favorite of mine, Lead Me On.
Yet another greatest hits package? November 13, 2007 4 out of 14 found this review helpful
What's wrong with record companies these days? Everytime you turn around there is yet another "greatest hits", "ultimate", "essential", "box set" or "whatever" hits package that basically consist of all the same songs, give or take one or two exceptions. This hits package is no different. Amy fans, you already have all this - there's no need to buy it.
What's up with Amy anyway? What audience is she trying to speak to? Her old "christian" audience, "pop" audience, "adult comtemporaray" audience, all of them? She's all over the place. I think everyone is kinda over it. She has a great career - nothing to be dissapointed with. It's just time to retire. For example - I dind't even know this was released. Never heard anything about it. It was never promoted - probably because there's nothing to promote.
