2 out of 5 stars Nostalgia yes... watchable DVD not so much.   October 29, 2008
I loved Stryper back in the day; they were a truly great and groundbreaking band. I saw that they released a DVD and thought it would be a fun trip to yesteryear. Turns out I was right, it is a nostalgic gem. Good setlist (if shockingly brief), tight band, and Michael Sweet looks and sounds great after all these years. The DVD is good evidence that Robert Sweet is the most talented drummer to ever touch professional music.

Sadly, everything good about the disc is overshadowed by two points.

Firstly: Michael - whenever he talks, it feels cheaply produced, stiff, and completely awkward. Strange, because when he sings he's outstanding.

Secondly (and the big point): this is the most dreadful audio presentation ever. I actually checked my speakers when it started because I thought the tweeters were blown. We're not talking a bad mix-job here... this is firmly into HandiCam audio territory. There is no stereo image at all; it's pretty much a mono track run through 5 channels. The LFE channel packs zero punch. It sounds like your speakers are playing through a mattress. Boo! There are no words to describe how much worse the audio is on this than everything else ever recorded ever.

I love strolling down memory lane and you can tell that Michael is in great form, but ultimately, this is a music disc and if the music has been so poorly recorded that it sounds worse than playing a wax tube from the 19th century, then it's just not something you'd ever want to put in more than once. 1 stars for me. You're better to buy the '7 Weeks in America' audio CD where more than $20 was put into recording and mixing.

5 out of 5 stars STRYPER LIVE!   August 29, 2008
Dont quite understand the negative reviews...why would you watch an ultimate concert video without stereo or surround anyway. Everything perfect here, video excellent and sound too. I love Stryper and Michael Sweet and they dont fail us. Great musicians and a great setlist...777

5 out of 5 stars Ties it all together   May 10, 2008
Being a guy that bought a few Stryper cassettes in the late 80's, I only saw the occasional Stryper video but their music always stood out from everyone else. Sure, the Christian element was different but to me it was the harmonizing guitars and vocals wrapped with punch-packing bass and percussion. Almost 20 years later, and a few CD's stronger, (Against the Law is tremendous) seeing these guys in their 40's and playing really all of my favorites true to the original version, I was impressed and amazed. I have no complaints about the sound; it sounds great in both surround and stereo modes. A lot of the hair is still present, especially with Oz and Robert, but it's a pretty stripped down and grown-up Stryper that I really like. Hope you do too.

4 out of 5 stars Great band, great show, no fuss!   March 4, 2008
What's all the fuss over bad sound in some of the other reviews? Bottom line....it's not a million dollar production but, the band plays well and it's honest, what's wrong with that?!?! I enjoy getting DVDs from tours that I saw. I saw this tour and I am extremely happy to have this archived from that time in Stryper history. If you are wavering because of reviews about the sound being dicey, fear not. The video quality is good as well. Very enjoyable. Get it.

5 out of 5 stars For Stryper Fans!   February 5, 2008
Good video for Stryper fans new and old. I had an old VHS copy of the Live in Japan video, but the age of the tape was not good, so this DVD is a great replacement. Also has good clips of concerts/songs from the late 80's if I am not mistaken. Recomended.
